A Message from the chapter president of Iota Xi at-Large:

Dear Member,

            It is a pleasure writing to you today to welcome you as existing and new members, to Sigma International Nursing Honor Society, Iota Xi Chapter-at-Large. The Iota Xi Chapter-at-Large is made up of three universities and colleges that include: Broward College, Florida Atlantic University and Palm Beach State College. As a member of this nursing honor society you receive information from Sigma International and Iota Xi Chapter-at-Large on upcoming events, current nursing issues and opportunities for continuing education. Another great resource is sigmanursing.org which has scholarship, funding and many other opportunities so please take time to visit the site.

            Chapter meetings are held for all members with a set agenda and minutes. Sigma chapters are committed to our communities so we will have many activities to support throughout the year.  Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 31st, 2020 at 6 pm.  Usually, we meet at one of the three universities and colleges but during the pandemic we have moved to a virtual format. Information of the upcoming meetings are sent out in advance for your convenience.

            The Board of Directors and all members welcome you to the organization and look forward to your active participation.

  • Comfort Closet at Broward College- Food and Essentials Initiative

    Iota Xi Chapter-at-Large has answered the Sigma call in the spirit of “Infusing Joy” by donating hygiene items.
    Broward College started a drive-through food and hygiene items distribution program for students at each of the three main campuses as part of the new Seahawk Marketplace services. Iota Xi Chapter-at-Large members supported the effort through donations. Thank
    you! The Food and Essentials Security Advisory board has partnered with LifeNet4Families, the Social, Behavioral, and Human Services (SBHS) Pathway, and the Seahawk Outreach Services (SOS) to provide pre-
    packaged food and hygiene items to students. All CDC guidelines are followed and no contact is made during the drive-through. Distribution is weekly. Please
    contact Dr. Lovell-Martin for distribution dates and locations.

    If you would like to donate to this food and hygiene distribution initiative, you can do so by buying directly from Amazon and the items will be shipped directly to Broward College. Click on the link below.

    Dear Colleagues,

    Thank you to all who submitted their proposals to Sigma Iota Xi Chapter at-Large Spring 2020 Research Night. We received several worthy proposals making it difficult to select our winners. However, after careful consideration our Sigma Iota Xi Chapter at-Large
    Research and Evidence-Based Practice Proposals funding awards go to:

    Melissa Johnston, RN, BSN, DNP student has been awarded a $750 grant from Sigma Iota Xi Chapter at-Large for her evidence-based practice
    proposal entitled, Program Evaluation of the use of Therapeutic Interactive Pets to Improve Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms and Cognitive Status in Participants at an Adult Day Center

    And

    Armiel Suriaga, BSN, MSN, PhD Candidate has been awarded a $750 grant from Sigma Iota Xi Chapter at-Large for his research proposal entitled: A Multi-year Investigation of the Socio-Clinical Factors of
    Opioid-Related Deaths Among Older Adults in Florida
